We have a style and level for everybody. All of our teachers offer expert instruction and offer helpful suggestions and adaptations to poses when necessary. If you are new to yoga or are unsure where to start with our classes please contact Amy at 429-3303 and determine the best level and style for you.
Our styles
Our classes are based on many styles of yoga, but have more influence from Interdisciplinary, Baptiste, Anusara and Iyengar yoga. Our yoga teachers pull from these various influences differently and additionally draw from their own backgrounds. The "power" classes have less focus on instruction of details and have more focus on flow of the breath and deepening of the postures. In these classes people want to sweat and flow, rather than stopping to learn details of the pose. The "hatha" classes have more focus on details and alignment in the easier levels and becomes more physically challenging at the "hatha vinyasa" level. Vinyasa is a faster-paced breath-linked yoga. There are no pauses in between poses (though there may be long holds). If you are new to yoga, start with a "basics" class.
We encourage people to stay at their own pace and level of challenge. With our expert instruction you are able to discover the vitality and health that yoga brings. TAYS' Chiropractor, Dr. Brent MacNeil, believes so deeply in yoga and its benefits, that he will pay for your first yoga class. He recommends TAYS yoga class Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm with Leanne Whiting.
“Practice yoga in a way that makes you want to do it again.” – Mike
HATHA
Hatha Basics
This is a beginner level class with emphasis on coordination of breath and movement, and also on safety and alignment. It is slower paced offering modification(s) for less flow and easier transitions. Our teachers can offer modifications or props when necessary to avoid strain or stress with certain poses, allowing everyone to obtain benefit and joyful practice. This class is a great place to start practicing, especially if you are new to yoga or enjoy learning the details of the poses.
Hatha Vinyasa
This is more challenging class that still offers details and props but only when necessary. The teacher will often work on specific postures and details of the poses that need attention. There is more flow or "vinyasa" in the class than with Hatha Basics, which will increase the heat in the body and start to challenge the heart and the lungs in addition to the muscles and tissues.
Workshop class
Maxine's Thursday lunchtime class will be a workshop style class. She will focus on different topics depending on needs and requests by students. Each month will have a different focus. In January the focus will be on backbends and in February Inversions. If you would like to request a theme for future classes please email Maxine
Hatha Aligned
This class integrates qualities of the heart with the bio-mechanics of the body through applying specific and powerful alignment principles based on ANUSURĀ© yoga. The class is a practice of deepening one's awareness in the attitude, alignment, and action of each pose.

Power Basics
This is a challenging yet accessible vinyasa class. This class links breath to movement to get the heart rate going, focuses on foundational postures and deepens the understanding of alignment. This class is a great place to start practicing, especially if you enjoy a bit of physical challenge.Power Hour
This vinyasa class is more challenging than the power basics. This is a 60 minute modified All-Levels flowing class that will take you to your edge.Advanced Power
Building on Power Basics, the sequences are more complex, including more challenging poses or variations. However it is not the complexity or challenging asana that make this class Advanced. It is the call to focus, listening and being part of a group while working strongly as an individual that gives this class its Advanced status. It is recommended to have some experience in power basics or a big, burning desire to step up to a whole new level of focus and awareness.
SPECIALTY CLASSES
Ease into yoga in a "gentle" way ... instead of a "yang" flowing practice slow things down for a "yin" practice ... or de-stress and find your breath in a meditation class ... we can help you find yoga during pregnancy or after having your baby ... classes can be for you and eventually can be for your children as they grow up. Our various styles of yoga are available throughout the week:Flying Yoga Therapeutics
Leanne Whiting teaching is teaching this class Thursday nights at 7:00pm. Flying Yoga Therapeutics roots from the Acro Yoga lineage (www.acroyoga.org) and is a practice that combines the art and movements of two people, one as a flyer, and one as a base. It uses gravity and metta (loving kindness) to therapeutically release and open the flyer's spine while grounding and trusting the stability of the base. The flyer uses minimal effort to receive the numerous benefits of inversions, while the base guides, and therapeutically heals the flyer.
Flying Yoga Therapeutics for Beginners uses asanas (poses) to open the body, introductory level Flying Forward Folds, and Flying Back Bends, combined with the healing art of Thai massage. It is a practice that helps build strength, flexibility, while restoring balance to the body. Is this class for everyone? Yes! No experience is required - only an openness to physical contact with others. If this is a sensitive area for you, bring a friend or partner that you're comfortable making contact with. This class runs from September until June.

Yin Yoga
Sunday nights at 7:30pm by Helen Fong. Yin Yoga contains the ancient, and some say original, form of asana practice. In a yin class postures are held for longer periods of time and are often supported with props to allow a deeper release. It is because of these long holds that the deeper structures of the body are opened, stretched and awakened. Years of a dedicated asana practice will make anyone healthier, stronger, and more flexible, but at some point the muscles will have reached their limit of flexibility. New depths in postures, deeper ranges of motion, or an increased flow of energy may only be achievable by focusing on the deeper tissues of the body. This is why so many students are finding Yin Yoga to be the perfect compliment and balance to their more active, yang practices. Come and discover this wonderful style of practice.
