Our Yoga Styles

We have a style and level for everybody. All of our teachers offer expert instruction and offer helpful suggestions and adaptations to poses when necessary. If you are new to yoga or are unsure where to start with our classes please contact Tomomi or Andrea at 429-3303 and determine the best level and style for you.

Our Main Yoga Style: Hatha Vinyasa or "Flow"

Interdisciplinary YogaA fun breath-oriented style of yoga available at all levels of challenge. This style has been developed from backgrounds in various yoga styles (Baron Baptiste, Interdisciplinary, Iyengar, Ashtanga and Shiva Rea) as well as influences from our therapeutic backgrounds (Physiotherapy and Occupational therapy). In the beginner classes more emphasis is on coordination of breath, safety and alignment. Higher levels offer more flow, longer holds, deeper postures and more challenge. Our classes are always joyful. With our expert instruction you are able to discover the vitality and health that yoga brings.

“Practice yoga in a way that makes you want to do it again.” – Mike

Partner Yoga

Leslie Hunter. Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm, September to June. Relax and renew your mind and body as you experience the healing benefits of vinyasa yoga, freeing dance movement, and meditation in one wildly fun and exhilarating class suitable for all levels, including beginners and non-dancers. Partner Yoga is a unique combination of conscious breathing and strong flowing movement, connecting to and moving through a sequence of asanas (postures) and dance forms that allow the prana (energy) to flow freely. Partner Yoga is the meeting of two great sacred expressions Yoga and Dance, focusing on yoga postures, dance warm ups, acro-yoga and conscious breathing, in spontaneous and creative flows.

Students are encouraged to listen to their own bodies, be kind to themselves and find their own ‘inner guide’.

Students will leave the class feeling energized, inspired, relaxed and grounded. You do not need a partner to come, just and open mind and a willingness to try yoga with yourself and your friends.

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga Jason offers ashtanga yoga Saturday afternoons at 2pm. Carmen will offer Ashtanga yoga Monday nights at 7:00pm over the summer months.

Many of our teachers have studied and completed advanced studies in the Ashtanga method and in the Baptiste method. You will find influences from Ashtanga and Baptiste in many of the TAYS classes.

The primary Ashtanga series is a flowing series of poses incorporating warming sun salutations, forward bends, twists, balance, strength and flexibility postures. The series is done in coordination with the breath to cleanse the body, work the heart and lungs, and calm the mind. The Baptiste method is also a flowing style but includes more backbends than Ashtanga and is a rhythmic and well-paced series allowing you to feel comfortably challenged after class. Please bring a mat, a closed water bottle and a towel.

OUR THERAPEUTIC YOGA

Our instructors have developed yoga classes for bodies that might like a gentler approach to wellness. These classes are appropriate for anyone interested in yoga for maintaining health and helping with common health problems or injuries. Each of the yoga teachers has training beyond being certified as 200-hour level yoga instructors, to offer individualized attention and "prescribed" postures or modifications that are suited to your needs.

This level of yoga would be of particular interest to those with arthritis, biomechanical back pain, degenerative disc disease, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, etc. Since some individuals need to approach yoga in a more gentle "therapeutic" way we offer these gentler approaches to yoga, so that the postures are modified or adapted to various bodies.
