500-HOUR Yoga Teacher Training REQUIRED YTT 500

FEBRUARY 4 and 5, 2012
RESTORATIVE YOGA / YIN YOGA WEEKEND (11 hours)
with Maxine Munro and Jolene d'Entremont

Supported butterfly Restorative Yoga is a therapeutic style of yoga which uses props to support postures allowing individuals to hold the poses easier, stay in longer and therefore, surrender to the pose. Individuals can benefit from restorative yoga duirng their menstrual cycle, during times of illness or injury such as high blood pressure, ulcers, back pain, immune dysfunction and depression.

The antidote to stress is relaxation. Restorative yoga focuses on relaxation, renewal, effortlessness and ease. Blankets, bolsters, straps, and other props safely support the body in various postures which allows the body to move towards a state of balance. This practice soothes your nervous system, helps you quiet your mind and invites you to release deeply held tension.

Yin Yoga contains the ancient, and some say original, form of asana practice. In a yin class postures are held for longer periods of time and are often supported with props to allow a deeper release. It is because of these long holds that the deeper structures of the body are opened, stretched and awakened. Years of a dedicated asana practice will make anyone healthier, stronger, and more flexible, but at some point the muscles will have reached their limit of flexibility. New depths in postures, deeper ranges of motion, or an increased flow of energy may only be achievable by focusing on the deeper tissues of the body. This is why so many students are finding Yin Yoga to be the perfect compliment and balance to their more active, yang practices.

Jolene and Maxine will co-teach this weekend as part of the 500 hour teacher training through TAYS.
Dates: February 4 and 5th (all day), 2012

Times: 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-5:00pm

INTRODUCTION TO ANSUARA YOGA (10 hours)
Stepping into the Currents of Grace: A Weekend of Anusara Yoga with Barrie Risman

Please visit Barrie's website for detailed information about her.
Anusara yoga is a modern, heart-centered hatha yoga system in which the art of the human spirit powerfully blends with the science of biomechanics. Deeply transformative, spiritually uplifting, powerfully integrative, Anusara offers a new approach to Yoga where science, awareness, energy and intention all blend within the light of the heart.
The vision of Anusara Yoga is grounded in a Tantric philosophy of intrinsic goodness. In this philosophy, the body is considered to be a sacred instrument of alignment and reunion with the Divine. Anusara yoga invites us to step into the ever-present flow of Grace in our practice and in our lives. When we align with the highest in ourselves, the yoga practice becomes a transformative and joyful expression of this expansive inner feeling.
In this workshop, we will explore the key elements that make up the Anusara Yoga system. Topics will include the elegant and concise set of Universal Principles of Alignment and some of the central philosophical ideas that form the foundation of Anusara yoga.

500-HOUR Yoga Teacher Training - REQUIREDYTT 500

March 4, 2012
"YOGA ASSISTS I" (7.5 hours)

Location: TAYS, 6156 Quinpool Road
Time: 8:30-5:00pm
Cost: $100 + tax
Why assist?
An assist can help a student deepen their pose. The combination of challenge and support from a teacher's words and hands can help a student move deeper into a posture and obtain more benefit and joy. At our course you will learn to help your students find deeper movement and more subtle movements and openings as well as improving breath into, sometimes, unavailable parts of the body. Teaching with your words and with your hands help to let your words make sense. With your hands you can work on the intricacies of the pose. This is similar to modeling clay. Allow your hands to fix, adjust, and manipulate your student to find those subtle differences that bring the pose to life.

Mike and Maxine will help make the art of physical assisting approachable and available to you. This course is taught in two parts: YOGA ASSISTS I and YOGA ASSISTS II. Each course highlights and practices different poses and different assisting techniques to improve your skill in this area no matter your level of previous experience.

Maxine Munro co-owner of Therapeutic Approach Yoga Studio has been teaching yoga for over 10 years. She is a Certified Interdisciplinary Yoga Instructor at the Professional level (500 hours), and has studied Tim Miller, David Swenson, Mark Darby, Allison Ulan, Hart Lazer and Rodney Yee. Maxine has degrees in Kinesiology and Occupational Therapy (honors). She has continued to be recognized by The Coast readers in "The Best Yoga Instructor" category since 1999. Maxine loves teaching yoga. Her enthusiasm and passion is apparent with each class that she offers. Michael Munro

This weekend's topic: Teaching Spirituality with Confidence based on Philip Urso's 500 hour Teacher Training Module with LIVE LOVE TEACH
The Dilemma:
Yoga Teachers have to study these archaic books!
The Yoga Sutras, The something-Gita. Not just old books, but translated from an ancient language. They each have dozens of translations. Each translation has a different take on the meaning. They are loaded with incomprehensible phrases. Our students might actually expect that we have a holistic understanding of it!
On top of that, we all have experienced when a teacher tries too hard at speaking to spirit which results in an uncomfortable moment for both the student and teacher.
What is a yoga teacher to do?
The Solution
Philip takes complicated principles and presents them in a way that is simple, clear, and easy to understand, and sometimes even fun! You will learn how to present information this way too. You will also learn the principles of how to land it powerfully in a class or workshop.
This weekend will be full of thought provoking exercises and discussion. Philip will teach some classes to demonstrate it all in action.
You will leave inspired and be inspiring!
