108 Days of Yoga - Day 53

Practiced postures after lunch. Since the timing of my day meant I needed to do yoga right after eating lunch I did a variety of hip openers, standing poses, and back bends including camel pose, which I havent done in a while. Its said you should wait 2-4 hours after eating before you practice yoga. I did notice my energy was lower, as I was digesting and near the end of practice I did more yin poses. I wouldn't say its ideal to practice after you eat, yet how often do you get ideal conditions to practice? If you wait for ideal conditions, practice never happens!

I was thinking yesterday that needed a good power vinyasa class to get me going. That's exactly what I received today from Cameron Graves who was filling in for Maxine today. Sometimes you get exactly what you ask for and sometimes you don't. Either way its good information. I also noticed this was the first class I have had since the flu where I wasn't coughing in savasana.

108 Days of Yoga - Day 49

Bead 49, Feb 18th, 2013.

Ok, after all that coughing and meditating and contemplating time to revisit my old friend the side crow pose. I took a few minutes between clients today to practice some warm ups, standing poses and twists. Then, once I was feeling a little more energy I attempted side crow. First time on each side was no problem. Second time was more difficult and I slipped out and went splat. Third time was a charm and the deep twisting and abdominal contraction that it creates produced some helpful effects on my healing lungs.

108 Days of Yoga - Day 48

Studied the eight wordly dharmas today. Comtemplated the effects of minds involvement in pleasure and pain, fame and disgrace, praise and blame, and loss and gain. It is said that this is how we spend a lot of time getting stuck in thought and attachment. The way Pema Chodron talks about it points out how these factors also cause us to close down our hearts. It seems to me the practice is to see it clearly, and by seeing it clearly we can let it go, and open up to the others and the way things really are.

Today I meditated on my teachers instructions and wrote the following poem.

 

Naturally Arising Song of Basic Goodness

 

Like the call of a bird at dawn

the silent sound of intrinsic awareness

shatters the morning dullness

 

Like the morning mist off the pond

108 Days of Yoga - Day 46

Bead 46. Feb 15th, 2013

Attended Leslie's class this morning. I was reminded how much I love music with yoga. We had a good power flow class with some partner work and balance poses to Phil Collins "Against All Odds". That was a flash back for me to the 80 highschool dances. The man next to me didn't recognize it at all and said "I guess that was before my time, no I was before it's time" and chuckled. I love a good playlist with yoga class. Thanks Leslie.
