Welcome to Body and Being! This blog is about sharing my experience with applying my knowledge of physiotherapy, yoga, and mindfulness to the condition of being in a body, in other words, to life in general. Here you will find thoughts and articles on various issues to do with health, wellness, science and human experience. I hope you enjoy!

108 Days of Yoga - Day 43

Bead 43. February 12th, 2013.

Today I vamped it up a bit more with Jolene's power hour. Good to move and breathe and sweat again. Still sitting instead of savasana because of the coughing.

108 Days of Yoga - Day 42

Bead 42. Feb 11, 2013.

Today I practiced asana for the first time since getting the flu. It was a relief to start to move again through the full range of possibilities available in a given moment in this body. The hard part was savasana because the supine position stimulated my cough reflex. I decided to sit in meditation instead. Ahhhhh.

108 Days of Yoga - Days 39, 40, 41.

Bead 39. Feb 8th, 2013.

Todays practice was meditation on the breath. Noticing thoughts. No asana due to intense flu symptoms.

Bead 40. Feb 9th, 2013.

Todays practice was meditation and contemplation for thirty minutes. As we are approaching the Tibetan New Year I reflected what new intentions to foster for the new Year of the Snake, and also on what to let go of from the previous year. Flu still preventing asana practice.

Bead 38. Feb 7th, 2013.

Fighting a flu, I did not have the energy to volunteer at our meditation group tonight. I did have to drop off the key so that they could get into the building, a small yet critical contribution.

108 Days of Yoga - Day 37

Bead 37. February 6th, 2013.

Meditation was in order today. Fighting some kind of flu, I decided to sit. In order to work with the various feelings that come with the flu, I contemplated the fourfold meditation/contemplation recommended by master Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamptso Rinpoche; form-emptiness, sound-emptiness, feeling-emptiness, and awareness-emptiness.

I also practiced loving kindness meditation for the people I care for around me. Over and out, peace out.

108 Days of Yoga - Day 35

Bead 35. Feb 4th, 2013

Today I had the opportunity to practice asana and flying yoga. Flying yoga is a practice where you have a base and a flier and the base supports the flier in asanas off the ground, supported by the bases feet. It demands a lot of concentration and strength and its also very playful. Wheee!

Bead 33. Feb 2nd, 2013.

Today was a special event. We have Barrie Risman teaching a workshop on yoga therapeutics at the studio, so I have studied and practiced asana quite a bit today. I am grateful for the new learnings and reminders about therapeutic yoga as well as connections and reconnections with yogis I made today with this training. Thank you Barrie, you are a very skillfull and engaging teacher. You have a good sense of humour combined with a genuine respect for the teachings all at the same time! Namaste.
